February Member Meeting and Demo by Ken Call
GCWS President Sue Kinsella opened the meeting, and introduced guests Janice Glaser and Dave Sheehan. Upcoming events include a March demo by Ed Kitchen, a two day workshop in May by Christopher Leeper, and a June plein air painting adventure at Native Roots.
Several members are included in exhibitions. Adele DiMinno and Marcia Hartsock are exhibiting in the Women in Watercolor 2026 Members Online Exhibition and are competing for Viewer's Choice awards (anyone can vote!). Marcia Hartsock has been juried into The Anjelico Project 2026 exhibition at St. Francis Xavier Church, Cincinnati OH. Andrea Walker has been juried into the American Watercolor Society's 159th International Exhibition at the Salmagundi Clubin NYC. Congratulations to all the exhibitors!
Updates were provided on the Treasurer's Report, DVDs from the Y-ART sale, and next year's Holiday Card painting event.
Tom Schroeder introduced nationally recognized watercolorist Ken Call. After beginning his career as a studio artist, Ken branched out on his own, beginning a successful freelance career, which to date has led to the creation of over 500 illustrations for books, magazines, art publishers, advertising agencies and corporations.
In the last few years, he has made the transition to fine art and portraiture. Many of his originals are hanging in galleries and homes across the country. Several awards have led to Signature status in the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Missouri Watercolor Society, Montana Watercolor Society along with being a Master Signature member with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and Illinois Watercolor Society.
