CAROL CARTER DEMO - JUNE, 2013

Carol Carter presented the program today. She is an award winning international artist, one of seven US artists  making this list. She has been painting over 40 years starting  with acrylics. Instead of giving us a power point presentation she brought numerous paintings to show us her different styles and subjects.

Carol does a self portrait every ten years just to validate where she is in life.

She always starts with a drawing and a lot of times limits her palette to 6 colors or less. Much of her technique is being able to use or make blossoms as part of the painting. Sometimes these just happen, other times she will create them by using clear water next to a painted area. Many of her paintings are figurative, expressing a certain subject. She did an entire show of figurative paintings in water using bold colors and imaginative colors to represent the water and the figures in the painting. When she paints large paintings, she actually paints them on the floor. She lays in the background first and then patiently waits as the painting dries to control the colors and any other movement in the paint.

Carol also feels that the title of the painting is another way to grab the viewer and bring them into the painting. She also feels it is important not to give the viewer all the answers in the painting, but to let them fill in the blanks with their mind.

She advises us to think about what you are painting and why you are painting it, because it might lead you down painting paths that you may not have expected.

Carol is a marvelous watercolorist and inspired us with her works and the use of colors. I wanted to thank Carol for bringing her paintings to the meeting so we could see them up close and truly enjoy them.

An Addendum from the President:
Even though I was unable to be there, I’m told that the group thoroughly enjoyed Carol's program and would love to have her come back!

Carol drove in from St. Louis and brought her original paintings to show the group!  Can you imagine!!!  Wow!!!

Kudos to Rhonda Carpenter who was responsible for having Carol come, and for hosting Carol overnight.  Rhonda sent me these photos for the blog – you can see that Carol was an animated speaker and her paintings stand out above the crowd.

Thank you, Carol, for coming so far and giving a wonderful presentation.

Copied!
